Do handheld speeding cameras catch both lanes of traffic?

i was just driving home and saw a policeman with a camera on a tripod facing the oncoming traffic. i didnt notice it till i had ped so i just wondered if it would only catch the oncoming traffic as it was facing that way, its just i only ped last year and already got 3 for going through a redlight another 3 and i will loose my licence think i was going 35-36 in a 30 thanks
