Does this sound about right?

This question is more about your work ethic and accomplishment of your goals than it is about what your goals are. They are really looking for examples of you working diligently and thereby managing to accomplish some of your goals. You could still write about 'independence' being a primary goal of yours, but then talk about what steps you have taken to reach this goal, specifically detailing the efforts you had to make. This is about you and what you can accomplish (you are selling yourself) more than what you want.
