Is this an accurate way of describing god's unconditional mercy ?

all of God's laws are for our own benefit and so that we are better people. they are to keep us from harm and to protect us. He did not just give us laws on a whim. that is not the way God works. if you think so, then i think that you are extremely close minded and that you dont understand love.
