HOW CAN I AY THE TENOR SAXOPHONE WITH NO SHEETMUSIC?

I play the saxophone and i wanna know how can i play songs with out the sheet music. Do i have to know the song fully. the words, the notes, how long will it take for me to learn them without sheet music. My dad said if i learn the saxophone without sheet musicjust by hearing i can get anythin i want. and i want a new saxophone a mouthpiece and a ipad 2. HELPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!
